Aptitude Test

The aptitude test for September 2026 entry is taking place on Saturday 17th January.

The aptitude test will assess your overall understanding of maths as a subject. It will show how you can adapt what you know to specific situations and to see how you work through a problem. The test requires no additional mathematics knowledge from the topics you will have already studied at KS3 in your secondary school.

Early applicants will be invited to an aptitude test preparation evening, to help prepare for the test.

Please see below for some sample questions to help prepare for the aptitude test. There is a link to the marking scheme for the sample questions;

Next Steps

Guidance Interview
Once applicants have sat the aptitude test, they will be invited to attend a Guidance interview. This is an informal meeting with a member of the LUSoM team and will take place either online or at high school.

LUSoM will do everything it reasonably can to enable applicants to perform at their best, and in making acceptance decisions, it will not discriminate between students on the grounds of gender, disability, faith, ethnicity or any protected characteristic.

Conditional Offer
Conditional offers will be made to all successful applicants in March 2026 and confirmed on GCSE results day. Applicants will be asked to accept or decline their conditional offer by a given date. Students who are not made offers will be either offered a place on the waiting list or will be advised that their application has not been successful.
