Celebrating the success of Maths Schools Nationally

Last week, our Head of School Pete Tiltman was joined by a couple of our Y13 students, Izzy and Cecilia, on a trip to the House of Commons to celebrate the official launch of u-maths, the network which connects all the university maths schools around the country. MPs, members of the House of Lords and famous faces from the world of Maths Education were there including Bobby Seagull and Rob Eastaway, and the keynote speech was given by Alex Gerko, CEO of XTX Markets. Maya Ellis, MP for the Ribble Valley was also in attendance and met Izzy who is one of her constituents.

At the evening there was also a chance to read an independent study by The University of Nottingham’s Observatory for Mathematical Education showing that Maths School students achieve higher A-Level grades and are more likely to progress to the UK’s most selective STEM universities – with the greatest benefits for girls, those from low-income backgrounds and from under-represented ethnicities.
