Based in Preston, the School will boast a variety of facilities including fit-for-purpose classrooms, specialist laboratories, social spaces and the LUSoM café. Areas will be available for collaboration between groups of students. LUSoM will be the first maths school in the country to open within a brand-new building specifically designed for a maths school. A large auditorium (with a capacity of 400) with 4k projection and high quality seating will allow large-group lectures, masterclasses and other events to take place.
The top-floor café will open onto a rooftop social terrace, offering spectacular views across Preston. The school building will be close to the main campus of Cardinal Newman College and LUSoM students will be able to access college facilities and activities. The site on London Road has excellent transport links with direct bus services. Secure, covered cycle parking and showers will be available.
Developed in partnership with academics from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University, students attending the school will benefit from virtual and physical access to facilities at the University.
Exeter Maths School Interested me because I liked the concept of going to a school where I wasn’t odd, or weird for liking Maths. They offered all the subjects that I wanted to do and in meant that everyone there would be studying Maths, or Further Maths which was different to my Secondary School Sixth Form where about five people would be studying them. The community was very close -the teachers felt like friends and everyone was like me. It felt very supportive and Inviting - We all appreciate Maths jokes!
