Taster Lessons
You can book one of the LUSoM team to join your top set pupils and hold a taster class.
The session will outline what LUSoM is, and what they can expect when choosing to study at a specialist Maths School. We will then go on to deliver a taster session for A-level Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, Chemistry or Physics.
These sessions can be booked throughout the academic year and are best suited for Year 10 & Year 11 top-set pupils. To enquire about these sessions please email – outreach@lusom.ac.uk
Inspire Programme
You can book one of the LUSoM team to deliver a lesson, which will go beyond the normal curriculum and will streatch and challenge your students to think.
We are able to offer lesson in maths, chemistry, physics or computer science.
These sessions can be booked throughout the academic year and are available for Years 7 – 9 top-set pupils. To enquire about these sessions please email – outreach@lusom.ac.uk
Axiom Maths Circles
At the Lancaster University School of Mathematics, we are very proud to work with Axiom Maths Circles, a UK charity set up to support high attaining students in Mathematics.
In an Axiom circle, a small group of students grapple with intriguing questions, discover and explore exciting ideas and learn to think like advanced mathematicians facilitated by a mentor.
Starting in Year 7, the circles should have approximately six students and will meet weekly from January. The programme continues all the way through to Year 11 with resources provided throughout.
There are two options for delivery: firstly the circles can be run by a mentor within your school, someone who is experienced at teaching maths at KS3 and above. The whole process will be facilitated and supported by a member of staff at LUSoM and here will be an introductory session before your circle starts with regular contact and support throughout. There is a funding incentive for this.
Alternatively, if there is no-one suitable available to run the circles then we ask if you would advertise our programme to Y7 students as we will be running sessions on a Wednesday night here at the LUSoM campus in Preston. Students can sign up to attend through our website: Outreach for Students.
Axiom Maths Circles is a registered charity, leading a nationwide enrichment programme for high-attaining secondary school pupils. Axiom Maths Circles enrich the mathematical experiences of the students who participate in them, helping them to develop their mathematical excellence through their participation.
