Maths Challenge success for LUSoM

Over the last month LUSoM students have taken part in a number of Maths Challenges run by the UKMT. From the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls and Mathematical Competition for Girls to the Senior Maths Challenge, LUSoM students have seen success in all competitions.
Head of School, Pete Tiltman said ‘These challenges really test students’ problem-solving abilities as well as their maths knowledge and really lie at the heart of what LUSoM offers. The students who are successful in these competitions are amongst the top mathematicians in the country.’
In the girls’ events, our Y13 students Francesca, Izzy, Freya, Violet, Abby, Jessica and Iona all received Distinctions. In the Senior Maths Challenge, we had 30 students get Gold putting them in the top 10% nationally out of over 100,000 entries, another 35 Silver and 34 Bronze Awards. Four students, Tobias, Dawood, Daniel and Finlay automatically qualified for the British Maths Olympiad which puts them in the top thousand of all students. They will sit this 3.5 hour test in the middle of November.
