Outreach for Students

KS3/KS4 LUSoM Extend

This programme is designed for high-ability KS3/KS4 students who have a passion and interest for mathematics and want to go beyond their normal lessons. The sessions will cover material which is not on the GCSE syllabus and will show you some of the incredible uses that mathematics can have once you take it at a higher level.

Meeting every half term on campus for 1.5 hours, we will tackle mathematics in completely new contexts and so develop your problem-solving techniques and your breadth of mathematical knowledge

100% of students last year agreed that these sessions helped in developing mathematical thinking, increase the depth of understanding and improved presentation skills.

KS3 LUSoM Axiom Maths Circles

At the Lancaster University School of Mathematics, we are very proud to work with Axiom Maths Circles, a UK charity set up to support high attaining students in Mathematics. In an Axiom circle, a small group of students grapple with intriguing questions, discover and explore exciting ideas and learn to think like advanced mathematicians facilitated by a mentor.

This programme is open to Year 7 students with sessions running every Wednesday (in term time) from 16:30 – 17:30, here at the Lancaster University School of Mathematics building.

The first session starts on Wednesday 17th January running through till the end of the academic year with the last session on Wednesday 19th June.
