Aptitude Test
We invite anyone who is sitting the higher tier GCSE mathematics paper and interested in studying mathematics and further mathematics at A-level to apply to study at LUSoM. All applicants will be invited to sit our aptitude test which will be held on Saturday 18th January 2025.
The aptitude test will assess your overall understanding of maths as a subject. It will show how you can adapt what you know to specific situations and to see how you work through a problem. The test requires no additional mathematics knowledge from the topics you will have already studied at KS3 in your secondary school.
We are now accepting applications for September 2025.
Early applicants will be invited to an aptitude test preparation evening, to help prepare for the test.
Please see below for some sample questions to help prepare for the aptitude test in February. There is a link to the marking scheme for the sample questions;

Interview
Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to an interview. Further guidance will be provided on the interview once you apply.
LUSoM will do everything it reasonably can to enable applicants to perform at their best, and in making acceptance decisions, it will not discriminate between students on the grounds of gender, disability, faith, ethnicity or any protected characteristic.
Conditional Offer
Conditional offers will be made to all successful applicants in March 2024 and confirmed on GCSE results day. Applicants will be asked to accept or decline their conditional offer by a given date. Students who are not made offers will be either offered a place on the waiting list or will be advised that their application has not been successful.
LUSoM is not only a place in which we all study maths; it's a vibrant community of like-minded people who share an ambition, passion for problem-solving, and eagerness to learn. We also have excellent support: the teachers here truly care about their subject, going the extra mile to broaden our understanding and open our minds to every corner of maths.
